Built on Experience.
Driven by Excellence.

Company History

Hubbard & Drake General-Mechanical Contractors, Inc. was originally founded as Hubbard Maintenance Contractors on February 14, 1984, by Kenneth W. Hubbard. Beginning his career as a pipefitter with Yeargin Construction and Buchanan Mechanical Contractors in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Hubbard built the company from the ground up. The earliest projects focused on onsite maintenance at the American Fructose corn processing plant, supported by a small but dedicated team of four.

In May 1985, Joe Drake joined the company as a partner, bringing with him over 21 years of industrial and plant engineering experience from organizations such as Boeing, Wolverine Tube, and the Saginaw Division of General Motors. Together, Kenny and Joe expanded the company’s reach into a wide range of North Alabama’s leading industrial facilities. Their shared philosophy—delivering high-quality work at competitive prices—became the foundation for long-term success. This commitment to excellence continues to drive the company today, with much of its business coming from repeat clients and word-of-mouth referrals.

In September 2002, Scottie Hubbard acquired the company, ushering in a new generation of leadership and growth. As a Licensed Professional Engineer with both mechanical engineering expertise and field experience, Scottie introduced innovative project management practices that improved efficiency, accountability, and customer satisfaction. Under his leadership, the company experienced significant expansion, doubling its gross sales and project volume within six years.

In January 2010, Chris Howard became a partner after years of dedicated service. With extensive experience in ASME code standards and project management, Chris played a key role in the company’s continued growth. The leadership team was further strengthened with the addition of Mike Staudt and Mike McLamb as project managers.

In 2017, Scottie Hubbard retired, and Chris Howard assumed the role of President. Mike McLamb was appointed Vice President of Fabrication, and Mike Staudt became Vice President of Construction. This leadership structure positioned the company for sustained growth and operational excellence.
